Last year was our first year with Turf’s Up Lawn Service. We highly recommend their lawn treatment services. Every year our HOA has sent us a letter saying that we need to take care of our lawn. Thanks to Turfs Up we did not receive a letter last year!

Update Again! Turf's Up is really dedicated to keeping their customers happy! This spring (2025) I had a slight complaint about weeds and a few dead spots and asked Turf's Up to take a look. Dan, one of the owners, came out and walked the whole yard with me (3+ acres), identifying weeds and observing dead spots. Dan then proposed a complimentary additional weed treatment. Not only did Turf's Up do the weed treatment, they followed up with a complimentary aeration and re-seeding in areas of the lawn that needed it. I am very impressed with the extra effort Turf's Up has done to help me have a great lawn. Update: For 2024 I've asked Turf's Up to expand treatment to the whole yard. I saw good results, compared to a neighbor, and decided to go all in. I selected Turf's Up because I saw them working a neighbor's yard that I had admired. I purchased their 8-treatment plan for 2022 plus aeration and seeding in the fall. Because of the large size of our yard, I had them treat about 2/3 of it. The areas they treated and seeded are noticeably improved over the area that was not treated, so I am well pleased with the results. Additionally, I have called them several times to ask questions about the treatments and to identify certain weeds (now gone) that were causing problems. Randy and Dan have always been quick to respond, friendly, knowledgeable, and professional. I highly recommend Turf's Up. Oscar N. McNeil, Waterford, VA

Lawn Care Services in Sterling, VA

Turf’s Up brings full-service lawn care to Sterling homeowners through a year-round program  that anchors every treatment in its right season. Fertilization, weed and insect control, aeration,  lime, disease management, and outdoor pest programs are coordinated into one calendar aligned plan. Turf’s Up provides expert overseeding in Sterling, VA every September, paired  with core aeration to restore the density and resilience that compacted Loudoun County clay  strips out over time. Our complete year-round lawn care program also covers fertilization, weed  control, lime, disease, and pest control timed to every season. Lock in your Sterling overseeding window. Call Turf’s Up at (703) 740-9525 for a free estimate.

      Lawn Fertilization Service

Sterling’s cool-season fescue and bluegrass need balanced feeding throughout the year, not a  one-time spring application. Our lawn fertilization service runs five to seven scheduled rounds  across spring kickoff, late spring growth, summer maintenance, fall recovery, and winter prep.

Each round uses slow-release blends matched to that season’s growth cycle, so color stays  steady, roots deepen, and your turf builds the density that crowds out weeds. Most Sterling  lawns show clear improvement after the first full year.

      Aeration and Overseeding

For Sterling lawns, late August through September is the prime aeration and overseeding window, and missing it usually means waiting another year for reliable results. Core aeration relieves the Loudoun County clay compaction that builds up across a season of  mowing and traffic. Pairing aeration with overseeding using modern turf-type tall fescue  introduces stronger genetics, fills thin spots, and produces the denser lawn that shows up the  following spring. Spots fill quickly each fall.

      Lime Treatment

Most Sterling soils trend acidic, which limits how well fertilizer can perform regardless of rate.  Our lime treatment uses pelletized product applied primarily in fall, when soil chemistry is most  receptive to adjustment. Soil testing comes first; we apply lime only when results show your  specific lawn will benefit. Most Sterling yards need a maintenance application every two to three years, scheduled by what your soil actually reveals.

      Weed Control

The most effective weed control in Sterling starts before weeds appear. Our late-winter pre emergent application stops crabgrass at germination, then post-emergent treatments through

spring and summer handle dandelion, clover, nutsedge, and other broadleaf invaders as they  emerge. Products are matched to weeds actually present in your yard and applied at correct  rates, so your fescue thickens up while invasives disappear. Most Sterling lawns see a sharp  drop in weed pressure within the first complete year.

      Lawn Insect Control

Grubs, sod webworms, chinch bugs, and billbugs damage Sterling lawns from below the  surface, often invisibly until thinning patches appear. Our lawn insect control program runs  preventive grub treatments in late spring, before damage begins, with curative applications  through summer when scouting reveals active feeding. Late-summer pressure is especially  heavy in Sterling. Catching the cycle early protects every other dollar invested in fertilization,  aeration, and overseeding throughout the year.

      Lawn Disease Control

Northern Virginia’s hot, humid June and July create reliable pressure for brown patch, dollar  spot, and red thread on Sterling lawns. Our lawn disease control program applies preventive  fungicides during the summer high-risk window and curative treatments when symptoms  emerge. Don’t let summer undo the spring progress on your turf. Combined with mowing and  watering guidance, most Sterling lawns avoid significant fungal damage even during the worst  weeks each season.

      Tree and Shrub Care

Sterling landscapes invest in mature oaks, hollies, dogwoods, and ornamentals that need their  own program. Dormant oil applications in late winter knock down overwintering insect  populations before they activate. Tree and shrub fertilization during the growing season uses  deep-root feeding to deliver nutrients where they’re absorbed, while tree and shrub insect  control protects against bagworms, scale, lace bugs, and aphids. These ornamental programs  keep Sterling landscapes vibrant year after year.

      Perimeter Pest Control

Stink bugs, spiders, ants, and centipedes head indoors with each weather change in Sterling.  Our perimeter pest control services apply a treated barrier around the foundation, doors,  garage, and entry points so insects stay outside. Treatments are pet-safe once dry and  scheduled to match Northern Virginia’s seasonal pest pressure. Most homeowners notice a  clear drop in indoor pest activity within the first treatment cycle.

      Mosquito Control

Our mosquito control program runs in Sterling from a spring launch through summer’s peak,  when populations are highest. Treatments coat foliage where adults rest and address standing water sites where larvae develop. Mosquito treatment for yard spaces you actually use,  including patios, decks, and the wooded edges where families gather, brings the biggest  comfort gain. Recurring treatments keep pressure low through the season.

      Flea, Tick, and Chigger Control

Tick exposure builds across Sterling’s wooded edges from a spring launch through summer,  and chiggers thrive in tall grass, leaf litter, and pine straw. Our flea and tick control program targets the perimeters and shaded borders where these pests live, with treatments continuing  throughout the active months. Outdoor chigger control breaks the cycle in mulched beds and  ground cover. Pets and kids enjoy the yard with much lower bite risk.

      Your Questions, Our Answers

      Turf's Up! Team

What professional lawn care and pest control services are available to homeowners in Sterling, VA?

How does the soil composition in Sterling, VA affect lawn fertilization, aeration, and lime treatment needs?

Sterling soils trend clay-heavy and acidic. That combination compacts and limits nutrient uptake, which is why annual September aeration, balanced year-round fertilization, and fall lime  treatments form the foundation of an effective Sterling program.

What outdoor pests are most commonly found on residential properties throughout Sterling, VA?

Mosquitoes, ticks, ants, spiders, stink bugs, and grubs are the top concerns reported by Sterling homeowners. Our combined perimeter, mosquito, and tick programs cover all of them, with  timing matched to Northern Virginia’s seasonal pressure curves.

When should homeowners in Sterling, VA apply pre-emergent weed control to prevent seasonal lawn weeds?

Late winter is the right window, before soil temperatures climb to crabgrass germination  thresholds. A second application a few weeks later extends protection through the heart of  weed-pressure season.

Can professional aeration and overseeding help restore thin, worn, or patchy lawns in Sterling, VA?

Yes. Annual September aeration paired with overseeding using modern turf-type tall fescue is  the most effective single service for thickening Sterling lawns. Most properties show dramatic  improvement the following spring after a complete first-year program.

What perimeter pest control options are recommended to protect homes in Sterling, VA from insects and pests?

A treated barrier around the foundation, doors, garage, and entry points stops ants, spiders,  stink bugs, and centipedes outside. Treatments are pet-safe once dry, scheduled to match  Northern Virginia’s seasonal pressure, and pair naturally with lawn care.

How much does a year-round professional lawn care program typically cost for a home in Sterling, VA?

Cost depends on lot size and the programs selected. Most Sterling lawns fall in a clear range  that we confirm during a free property visit. Bundled and pre-pay programs typically save money compared with adding services individually.
